Summer sandwiches & beauty from the inside out

Heyyy,

Jumping right into:

Sunday SELF - C. 🥪 A. 🧁 R. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 E. 🌺

Last months faves for Cooking, Art, Reading, and Enthusiasm/ what’s bringing me joy lately.

🥪 Cooking: Summer Sandwiches

Focaccia caprese sandwich 🍅🌿🍇

I haven’t taken pics of this sandwich so just trust me and try it 👇

Homemade sourdough focaccia + homemade pesto + tomato, mozzarella, arugula, & balsamic = the most stunning sandwich of your life!

(Toast the bread with just pesto and mozzarella in the oven. Then add the rest.)

My favorite thing about summer cooking is probably homemade pesto and if you prepared well this season, like I just now finally have!, using basil from your own garden is on another level of gorgeousness.

Last year I’d make pesto once and completely wipe out my one and only basil plant so this year I stocked up and have 5 thriving and overgrowing basil plants to cook with. Yay :)

Summer feels like the best time for sandwiches and making them with homemade bread and filling with food from your own garden is truly luxurious.

This one I grilled zucchini in EVOO and grated some parm on top. Then filled the focaccia with homemade pesto, grilled zucchini, tomato, sprouts, and balsamic.

🧁 Art: I’ve been baking a lot which is a fun change for me.

🥕🤎

I made this cutie carrot cake and also sourdough cinnamon rolls for Levi’s birthday!

Baking used to be no fun because I’d never feel comfortable eating anything I made since it wasn’t healthy… but now with the type of ingredients I use, every single dessert I make is nutritious enough for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack, or dessert.

Whenever feels right, your body responds so well to Earth’s ingredients.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Reading: The Family Book (Book 6 in The Ringing Cedars series, also called, The Book of Kin) by Vladimir Megre

This series is so up my alley and I’ve basically been uninterested in reading anything else for the past few months.

Especially as I think about growing my family, the topics in this series are absolutely essential for cultivating a joyful and healthy home and lifestyle.

This book in particular is all about the formation of a healthy and intentional marriage and then having and raising children.

It’s fun to see that many of the ideas shared are exactly what my husband and I have been doing and talking about, most in depth since getting married.

Like… The importance of having a shared vision of your future and daydreaming/ visualizing that image all the time, both in your own mind and in conversations together.

The book calls this “creating a dimension of love.” This is where the couple comes together in love, visualizes their future clearly, and has awareness that they are creating that vision together. This true union is crucial for a joyful and healthy family.

And this next idea… I’ll let the book speak for itself with this quote:

“Undoubtedly the advantages of conceiving, carrying to term, and bearing a child in the same place — a beautiful homestead — can be scientifically proven… And Anastasia says it causes a full connection to be made between the person born and the cosmos.”

It’s definitely not a series of books that I would’ve understood or connected with even just a couple of years ago, but definitely one to keep note of and revisit if you aren’t interested now.

I wrote more about starting this series in a past Sunday Self-C.A.R.E. post in the reading section if you want to learn more.

🌺 Enthusiasm: Simple beauty practices from nature

I’ve been having so much fun adding in more self-care moments focused on amplifying physical beauty and reconnecting with the beauty of nature at the same time.

Nothing screams feminine beauty more than being home, admiring my garden with a cup of medicinal hot chocolate or hibiscus lemonade, so I’ve been adding in more of those moments.

My favorite account to follow and where I’ve gotten most of these beauty practices from is @valerieribon on Instagram and Substack.

My newest favorite beauty moment is the egg white sheet mask.

🌺🍋 Hibiscus Lemonade is full of vitamin C and a major beauty booster! Make lemonade by combining fresh lemon juice, water, and honey in a saucepan and bringing to a simmer. Then brew hibiscus tea and combine. Also this combo is amazing iced and poured into a cup halfway filled with coconut water.

I honestly thought I’d never use sheet masks again because they’re completely toxic.

But now I get all the fun of sheet masks with only edible and highly nutrient dense food for my skin!

Simply cut rice paper into strips to fit your face, dip them in egg whites, and apply!

Here’s the video showing exactly how to make and apply this natural sheet mask.

Also, I posted these amazing eye mask jellies a few month back using matcha, noni, and aloe 💚 Find it in the Enthusiasm section of that post.

Now I made another “flavor” with coffee for added undereye stimulation and awakeness!

  • Grass-fed gelatin

  • Freshly brewed coffee, cooled

  • Coffee grounds

  • Marshmallow root

With everything we consume (through eating, drinking, and absorbing) we have the opportunity to infuse vitality and embody beauty from the inside out.

I hope you’re enjoying your summer so far! This is the best time of year to find your local farm stands and to get access to real, high life-force food (not from the grocery store) and fill your home with fresh flowers 💐

Pleaseeeee send me pics of your farm stand haul if you go! I love to see it 😍

🤍 Jaclyn

Reminder to find your local flower farms and look into what types of flowers you’ll try to grow yourself next season! 🌷
